Latah Latah is a culture-specific syndrome usually seen in Southeast Asia and involves startle-induced disorganization, hyper suggestibility, automatic obedience, and echopraxia (a tendency to mimic the examiner's or other person's actions). It is usually associated with women. There is controversy over whether Latah is a real psychiatric condition, or merely a display of exhibitionism that would otherwise not be socially acceptable.
